February 2014
I registered an open climb together with my Baktasmmc. My 3rd climb in Mt.Talinis since 2010. The event was an annual event of Cuernos de Negros Mountaineers Club Inc. University based mountaineering group in Silliman University, Dumaguete City. The event dubbed as Katkat Pahinungod 2014. Its a date with mother nature since it is usually scheduled every month of February. It's every mountaineers and outdoor enthusiast bucket list.
Night before the climb proper the organizer had an orientation at El Amigo Bar regarding the event, rules and policies and of course highlighting the very essential Leave No Trace Principle that everyone should observed. It's a two nights and 3 days climb so we have to be prepared of all our stuff specially our food supply. Time to get acquainted with our fellow participants with a bottle of RH beer. I should say that giving time to join a pre-climb event is very important in participating a climb.
The next day, Climb proper, the most awaited day. While waiting for other participants to come, we took a group picture together with the event tarp.
We arrived at the jump off point early and started trek after warming up our bodies. Our route was Apolong - Bediao .
Along the trail we passed by a small Nipa hut that served as shelter for the forest ranger of DENR while having their monthly duty, protecting and preserving the Island last frontier of biodiversity.
One of the feature in this route was that crossing the clear Banica river smooth flowing from the summit to the sea.
Extending a helping hand to another mountaineer in crossing the river. A very common gesture you see in the great outdoors.
Afters hours of trek we arrived at Twin Falls of Mt. Talinis. A cool and impressive waterfalls that can take your breath away after a long accent trail then you will welcome with this natural body of water.
You can swim but just be cautious enough.
Drift water coming from the water falls.
The Baktas mmci team, namely Elan Mandy, Cliff, Jude and Ms. Levy the new club member have there Twin Falls signature posed.
Of course its me with my signature posed starring at the waterfalls.
Thumbs Up for the great view and for the wonderful creation that God entrusted to us.
We arrived early at the first campsite venue known as Rancho. A wide grassland area ideal for a campsite. Sufficient water supply an a wide view of the mountain range.
Preparing food for our dinner first night.
That's Marky and Jude waiting for the rice good to eat.
The continuation of getting to know each other while cooking early dinner.
The next day we woke up early, prepares our breakfast and then move forward to Lake Nailig for our second night. Presenting the iconic Lake Nailig of Mt. Talinis. Its. clear and majestic view of the lake.
We set up our tent and rest, rest, rest. Sharing of experience and also insight regarding gears, or shall I say outdoor gears review. Setting up our kitchen shelter also a place in a camp where we will be be having our story telling and jokes while cooking our sumptuous meal.
Having a good time in the outdoors.
Evening comes and its about time to eat our dinner and after which the so called socials part two " 2nd night" continues. Socials is the time when climbers get to know each other, sharing experiences and insight. Also, its a time of telling stories especially hunted and ghost stories in the mountains and stories of triumphant victories and failures in the great outdoors.
We really had a great company with a very diverse participants from different walks of life and yet amazingly we all have fun, jokes, laugh and a really awesome night for everyone that no one was left behind. Thanks to the organizer who in one way or another warmly welcome us all, accommodated us and treat us all as real good brothers in the great outdoors. We had a good good night after all amidst the cold temperature that night.
Morning comes and we have to bid farewell to lake Nailig.
Breakfast and Breakcamp two in one before the sun shines upon us.
Everybody was busy keeping there stuff put into the backpacks. Hopefully no gears and apparels will be left and of course the LNT principle, we have to bring bring back down all our waste and garbage's except the human waste.-)
I think everybody was now ready for the mandatory group pictures taking at Lake Nailig. They are now looking for the right position and angle for the photo.
One , Two, Three.... here we go the 2014 Katkat Pahinungod participants.
The grateful smile of every participants.
In the photo was our Mother during the climb together with his husband both have passion to outdoors.
After the trek we head back to the city for our post climb party "socials".
Complementary dinner and drinks inclusive from the registration of 600 pesos. Plus you have one event shirt and other exciting freebies for everyone.
Surrounded by nice people, good music and tasteful food and jars of beers.
Enjoying the night with live band and a lot of drinks.
Party, party, party...
After days of climbing, you have to reward your self.
Constant reminder drink moderately.
Jumping with a reggae music.
Rock, Roots Reggae..........
Thumbs Up for the great camaraderie and the memorable experiences.
After all it is not the mountain that we conquer, but it's ourselves.
" You never climb the same mountain twice, not even in memory. Memory rebuilds the mountain, changes the weather, retells the jokes, remakes all the moves."
